With proper care, your roof will remain in great condition for many years. However, problems can still develop despite routine maintenance. During a storm, the roof can suffer serious damage. It may also become prone to various issues, including sagging, as it ages.

Here’s what you should do if you have a sagging roof.

What Causes Roofs to Sag?

Roofs naturally deteriorate as they age. The life span of a roofing system largely depends on its material, installation and maintenance. If your roof is at least three decades old and has started sagging, it likely needs to be replaced. This issue can occur sooner than expected if your contractor didn’t install your roof correctly.

When too much load is on your roof, it can result in sagging. You want to address this issue immediately because there will always be the risk of a collapse or widespread structural damage to your home. If it has snowed heavily in your area or excessive snow has accumulated on your roof, have it removed as soon as possible. What Can You Do About It?

A sagging roofing system with a rafter-style frame will usually be bolstered and beefed up from the inside. However, if you have an aging roof, it’s usually best to get a new one. The same solution applies to truss-frame roofs. However, if the problem has already spread, you might need the assistance of a homebuilder. Extensive damage on the framing of the roof must be checked and addressed by an experienced professional.
